Greenfield, IN – We continue to look for an easy in/out campground in Indiana on I-70 that can accommodate a 45 foot motorhome towing a Jeep, is fairly level and has enough room for slides. We’ve tried Terra Haute Campground and Richmond KOA, both of which are a tight fit for a big rig. So we gave Indianapolis KOA a try, given their website crows about Big Rig spaces. The summary: it’s marginally better than the above two, but it’s less than ideal.
This KOA Holiday campground requires a really odd U-turn to access the office, a move which is not optional. While there is plenty of room, the wide swing of an RV depends on the space being clear of things like other vehicles and doors on the building left open. Yes, the door to the bathroom was open (an employee was cleaning it) and it made an easy U-turn into a moderately difficult one. Karla mentioned this to the employee, that keeping the door open made for a more difficult fit, but they clearly didn’t understand the issue. Their response: “well, I’m cleaning it”. I had to drive within 1’ of my passenger side mirror hitting this door to negotiate the turn.
Our site itself was tight, with a poorly placed boulder between sites that prevented a nice, wide turn, requiring me to drive on grass and get uncomfortably close to the neighbor’s RV. The site was very long, but not particularly level nor particularly wide. While it had a concrete patio, the neighbor’s RV was heading the opposite direction and their patio was adjoining ours which did not offer the usual privacy at an RV site. All in all, it’s another Indiana campground (on I-70) that doesn’t offer 45 foot class A owners (which are 65 feet long with the tow vehicle) easy ingress and egress. Also, why can’t RV Parks trim tree branches to be at least 13’6” off the ground? You know, the height that many motorhomes are?
