Tiffin Allegro Open Road RV

2012 Tiffin Allegro 32CA

Overview

The Tiffin Allegro Open Road is Tiffin’s entry level Class A motorhome, build on a Ford F53 van chassis with a Triton 6.8 liter V10 engine. Our model (32CA) has two slides, one in the front on the drivers side incorporating the sofa and booth dinette and one in the rear passengers side incorporating the bed.

Things we like

  • The relatively short size, coupled with having only 2 slides, means we can fit in spaces that a longer, quad-slide class A cannot.
  • The floor plan works perfectly for us. We love the booth dinette.
  • A real queen bed (i.e., 60″ x 80″) and not the short queen found in many RVs.
  • Thoughtfulness of storage options throughout the coach. Tiffin builds their own cabinets to the exact dimensions needed to cover the entire RV. Very nice.
  • Build in back-up and side mirror cameras. For new RVers, the reassurance of looking at a screen to verify there are no vehicles next to you before changing lanes is priceless. Having said that, after RVing for awhile now I find I use the mirrors exclusively and never even glance at the monitor. So I guess this feature is not necessary if you have experience driving big rigs.

Things we don’t like

  • How noisy the engine is when driving, especially up hills. The transmission downshifts at the slightest suggestion of a hill, and the RPMs of the engine increase correspondingly. The result is lots of yelling by passengers to hold a conversation.
  • The lack of stability in crosswinds. Driving across Kansas on I70 with a consistent north-south crosswind was brutal, tiring work. My shoulders ached at the end of the day and my nerves were frazzled.
