About Us

Welcome to “The Good, The Bad and the RV”.  We are Mike & Karla Hayes, traveling together since 2007.  In 2012, we purchased our first RV, which allowed us to spend more time exploring our world.  We loved RV’ing so much that in April 2017 we decided to become full time RV’ers. We sold our house in Colorado, bought our full time RV and hit the road. After two great years on the road, we made the hard decision to go back to part time RV’ing. We also sometimes travel via planes, trains, and automobiles. Avid outdoor enthusiasts, we enjoy hiking, biking, kayaking, 4×4 trail riding, camping, wildlife watching and photography. Our blog shares information and stories from our adventures and experiences. We hope to provide inspiration, ideas, and information.

Mike blogger

Mike is a software engineer and handles all of our techie stuff. He’s an avid hiker and lover of good food. He is particularly fond of a good bakery or chocolatier. He has earned a very small amount of internet fame for a post made in 1989 to the rec.juggling newsgroup that somehow  survives to this day, despite zero intervention. Thus proving anything you post to the internet will indeed last forever.

Karla blogger

Karla worked in human services until 2009, when she was diagnosed with a rare chronic autoimmune disease, Systemic Scleroderma, which greatly impacts daily life. She has written a more detailed post about her medical issues for those who may be interested. She shares tips and insights from her experiences traveling with a chronic illness. She loves wildlife watching and photography.

Foxy cat

From 2012 through 2020, we traveled with our cat Foxy, a beautiful Maine Coon. While not always the most enthusiastic passenger, she loved spending time with her people and hated being left at home. She loved bird watching and a good nap. In January 2020, she left us at 17.5 years of age.  We’ve left her info here as there are posts in which she is mentioned.
