Here are a few restaurant recommendations that are close to the Sandy Riverfront RV Resort we stayed at.

  • Tad’s Chicken ‘n Dumplins – If you go you have to get the namesake dish, the chicken and dumplings. The chicken is tender, the dumplings firm and the gravy is heart clogging. The portions are ridiculously large, plan for leftovers. I think my favorite part is this history written on a plaque outside about the origins of the name Tad:

Handsome Tad Johnson, known locally as a rascal and a fisherman, (in that order,) opened his roadhouse in the late 1920’s at the east end of the Sandy River Bridge.

  • Ristorante Di Pompello – A short walk from the RV brought us to this pleasant discovery. I’m very critical about Italian restaurants, liking only a handful I visit, but Ristorante gets the thumbs up. There is one dish I use to determine if further culinary investigation is necessary: the Caprese salad. There are only a few ingredients, so there is nowhere to hide poor quality. It passed the test.
  • Char Burger – If you drive to nearby Cascade Locks on a day trip, stop by this casual eatery for lunch. While the burgers are good, the main reason to eat here are the outstanding views. The Char Burger has an enviable location on the banks of the Columbia River, right next to the historic Bridge of the Gods.
