Based on our experiences during our short 4 night/3 day visit in Whitehorse. There are may restaurants that we did not have time to check out.

Wolf’s Den– This is a small restaurant co-located with the Caribou RV Park a short distance before Whitehorse at 868 miles along the Alaska Highway from Dawson Creek. All meals are prepared fresh with German & Western cuisine by the Swiss ex-pat owners. Daily specials, steaks and schnitzels, salads and pasta, fish and vegetarian dishes are served. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We ordered the Bavarian Meatloaf with a fried egg on top. This is NOT the meatloaf most Americans think of when hearing the word meatloaf.  It is a solid block of meat made into a loaf, a slice is cut off and pan fried. With our order we got a salad, bread & butter, and french fries. Salad dressings are made on site as is the bread. The Bavarian Meatloaf was good. We both enjoyed it. We think that the loaf is made from pork and beef, but we will try to research it when we have better internet.

Klondike Rib & Salmon – Located at the corner of 2nd Avenue & Steele, this is one of the best restaurants in town according to numerous guides. We had a late lunch there after a hike and can understand why. They are open mid-May to September. I ordered the Fish n Chips which is made from fresh Alaskan Halibut and Mike ordered the ribs. The Fish n Chips were really good, possible the best I’ve had. Mike, who is not a big fish eater, also really enjoyed the Halibut. His ribs were tender but the sauce was too “cloying”.  They also have bison and caribou on the menu. We heartily recommend this restaurant.

The Yukon Meat and Sausage Deli– This was Mike’s favorite food find in Whitehorse. Located at 203 Hanson Street, this is a full service Deli. They are open Tuesday through Saturday, 9am to 5:30pm. They offer homestyle cooked foods in addition to a good imported food selection. They had a great cheese selection. They make sausages, smokies and jerky on-site. They make products using elk and bison in addition to beef, chicken and lamb. They have a small eating area and offer specials such as sausages and sides. They also have baked goods and breads that are made on site. We got a loaf of bread and some treats, which have been good. They also had the nicest looking chicken breasts in town. Mike picked out some smokies and some aged gouda which we look forward to enjoying in the next couple of days.

Grocery Store: Super A Foods– Located at 29 Lewes Blvd, Whitehorse. We found this to be the best bet for groceries. They have an ok selection of foods, reasonable produce & meats. All prices seemed to be higher than we would pay in the states, but the food has to get shipped here. There are a lot less options than we are accustomed to in the U.S. or a larger town.

There is a Walmart with a sad, small food area that also has an RV section.

For anyone missing fast food, we saw: McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, Starbucks, KFC, etc.. There are two Tim Horton’s, which is the equivalent of a Dunkin’ Donuts.
