Iskut, BC – You couldn’t pick a better location for an RV park, located down in a heavily treed valley next to a picturesque lake and surrounded by towering mountains on all sides. The park is located off the Cassiar Highway in Northern British Columbia near the little town of Iskut, which doesn’t seem to have any services. The slightly larger town of Dease Lake is about 50 miles further north, and has a small grocery store and fuel station.
Note that full service hookups are not available here. The best you can do is electric (30 amp only) and water, but a sani dump is located on site. The entrance to the park is a bit daunting in its steepness, and coming from the north requires a very sharp right hand turn, but we managed it just fine. The sites are very long and wide enough for all slides, although a bit close to your neighbors if the park is full. All sites have the same phenomenal view, especially with the fall foliage in full color. We found ourselves sitting at the picnic table and just taking in the views.
The owners of the park have created a nice little hiking trail, with one branch going to a dock on the lake while other continues for about 1 km to a nice view of the lake. Fishing for trout is also possible in the lake, and I suspect hip waders would be a good idea to avoid snagging trees from the shore. I don’t know if you’re allowed to canoe/kayak if you bring your own, but it would be perfect if you could.
If you’re driving the Cassiar Highway to or from Alaska (and you should) do yourself a favor and stop for an overnight here.
