Soldotna, AK – A conveniently located and cozy park in Soldotna, an ideal place for exploring the northwest side of the Kenai peninsula. Most of the sites are back-ins here, so it’s not ideal for a one night stay. For our 4 night stay we were in site #1, a 50 amp back-in site at the front of the park, bordering the main road. While there is some road noise to deal with, we actually liked this long and level site and would recommend it. It’s somewhat detached from the rest of the park and has a nice buffer of trees on two sides.

The owner helpfully alerted us their water pressure is 70 psi, and then made us sign a disclosure stating that they are not liable for any damage resulting from high water pressure. That’s a first! I guess the presence of a disclosure implies people have foolishly connected to the water supply without using a pressure regulator and damaged internal pipes. For any newbies out there I highly recommend reading The Complete Idiot’s Guide to RVing, like I did 5 year ago, and you’ll know a pressure regulator is mandatory equipment.

The entrance to the campground from Funny River Road requires a tight U-turn to pull up by the office. We made this U-turn in our 40′ rig, so it’s possible, but very tight. We watched a 45′ Tiffin Zephyr not even attempt the U-turn and head up another row, which is ok except you’re heading the wrong direction to park in the sites. My suggestion is to wait for a break in traffic on Funny River Road and start your swing from the far left hand side, which should be enough room for any size rig to make the U-turn.

From this campground we visited the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center and hiked a number of trails, took a day trip to the town of Kenai and the Captain Cook State Recreation Area, and then checked out the mouth of the Kenai River where it flows into Cook Inlet. We also took a scenic drive along Kalifornisky Beach Road.
