Deer Lodge, MT – This is not a great campground. It’s dusty, the sites are tiny, and the lady who works there is beyond unhelpful, she’s actually a nuisance.  When we arrived, there was a sign on the door to call a phone number, which we did.  She seemed annoyed that we followed the directive to call and said she’d be there soon.  She pulled in and parked immediately behind us.

We checked in and she put us in the shortest of the full hook up sites even though there was no one around and no one showed up overnight (or for any of the nights we were there), forcing us to unhook and do a 4-point maneuver to get into the site. It would have been a simple back up and then pull-in had she moved her car or not parked immediately behind us. We parked exactly where any RV would park while checking in. Not only did she not move, she watched with a look of disgust as we executed our parking maneuvers around her car. And then she puttered around doing nothing as far as I could tell except to keep an eye on us. The whole experience was a poor one and we’re not returning.

From this KOA we did some 4WD trails through Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, which including old Mining areas. We took a day trip to Philipsburg, which is know for it Candy Shop and the Garnet Ghost Town, which is well preserved & we really enjoyed exploring it. The Grant Kors National Historic Site, a Montana prison museum/antique care museum are in Deer Lodge. The town has a reasonable sized grocery store, and some restaurants.
