Kent, WA – This campground is located south of Seattle near the city of Kent, off the busy 212th street. It has the typical KOA amenities, but is a bit shabby and run down, not to mention massively overcrowded. We didn’t find any campgrounds closer to Seattle that accommodated a big rig. The reviews for this campground are pretty terrible, and for the most part I agree. However, with just one tip you can improve arguably the worst part of the experience: overcrowding. Simply reserve one of the premium back-in sites next to the wildlife sanctuary. They are the longest and widest sites in the park and no one can park across from you as it’s the main route out of the park.

Roads through the campground can be tight as sites are small

I should note that our site, #151, while long and wide, was very unlevel due to large dips in the asphalt. Given the location of the sewer hookup we didn’t have many choices to move around the site. We ended up using all 6 leveling blocks to get the rig nice and level.

We had plenty of space for slides once we were able to level

My favorite aspect of staying here is the close proximity to the Green River trail, a multi-use 20 mile paved trail that loops around the city of Kent. The trail literally adjoins the campground, making for perfect early morning walks.

On our first stay here in 2012 we had our first crazy neighbor incident.

It’s only a 20 minute drive to downtown Seattle (during non-rush hour) and Mt. Ranier is 1-2 hours away, depending on which entrance you choose.

Also, there is a good BBQ place down the street call Pete’s BBQ.
