We opted for the Universal Toll Module on our 2020 New Aire since we frequent a number of toll roads throughout the country and don’t want to stop to take a ticket and pay a toll. In addition, the Universal Toll Module gives you the discounted rate as if you had every individual toll road’s module installed. Newmar charges $273, which I now know is a waste of money given the ease of installation. For our 2019 London Aire, I simply ordered a new Universal Toll Module direct from the manufacturer (WESCO Fastec) for $95 and installed it in 2 minutes. Just center it on the front windshield, about 4” down from the top, and affix using the included double sided tape. Then sign up for an account at RV Toll Pass.
As an example of the savings, we commonly drive on the exceedingly expensive, but also exceedingly efficient, E470 Toll Road near Denver, CO. Let’s say you’re on I-70 West and want to get to I-25 North towards Wyoming. You pass through Toll Plazas C, D and E. For a 5 axle vehicle combo like ours (3 axles on the motorhome and 2 axles on the Jeep Wrangler toad), without having a toll module, the cost is an astounding $54.40. With the Universal Toll Module it’s $32.75, which is still not cheap, but you completely avoided Denver traffic.
The catch? They charge you a $14.99 service fee for the months that you incur toll charges. For us that’s still ok. We typically hit toll roads in PA, KS and CO on the way out west, all within the same month. The savings more than cover the $14.99 fee, then add in the convenience of not stopping at toll booths (which, admittedly, is only KS in this example) and it’s a clear win.
