Upper Sackville, NS – This is a typical campground in Canada: only 30 amps, all gravel roads and sites, and full of small trailers. Any class A motorhome stands out, which in my opinion is not a good thing. This is not an ideally located campground for exploring central Nova Scotia, but our research didn’t turn up anything better. It’s fairly close to Halifax, which is nice, but it’s not particularly close to Peggy’s Cove, St. Margaret’s Bay, the Bay of Fundy, or any National Parks. Nevertheless, we stayed here 10 nights and explored all those and more.
Much like other campgrounds in the far north we experienced low voltage problems here, always teetering on the edge of power being cut off by our transfer switch to protect sensitive electronics. We were also disappointed by our location, in one of the shortest pull through sites available (and right next to the frequently used dump station) when RVs staying a single night were given better locations. We would not stay here again.
We hiked at Gaff Point, 9 Mile River Trails, Cape Split, Bluff Wilderness Trail in the Five Bridge Lakes Wilderness Area, hiked and visited Kejimkujik National Park, and road bike on the St. Margarets Bay Area Rail to Trail. We also visited Halifax, Lunenburg, and Peggy’s Cove.
