Blackfoot, ID – The Eastern Idaho State Fair is an annual state fair held the first week of September in Blackfoot, Idaho. We visited the fair twice during our stay in Arco, ID (about an hour drive) where we were staying in our RV at the Arco KOA. On one of our trips we stopped in to visit the Idaho Potato Museum. This fair is easily accessible to Idaho Falls, Pocatello and Twin Falls. We were impressed with the size of this fair.
There are animal barns to be toured which house cattle (dairy and beef), pigs, goats, horses, poultry, and rabbits where local 4-H members showcase their livestock. There are a wide range of local vendors displaying a wide range of products from shoes to tractors, to after market vehicle accessories. There is a carnival section offering a very wide range of rides and games.
Food is plentiful. We joked that you could eat an entire meal on a stick: pork chop, bacon, corn on the cob, corn dogs, spiral cut and fried potato, and sausages are just a few of the stick items for sale. They have stands serving Mexican, Chinese, Japanese, American, and Indian foods. For those with a sweet tooth you can get ice cream, baked goods, funnel cakes, tiger ears, mini donuts, carmel covered apples and cotton candy. We also saw a wide range of deep fried items, including oreos, cheesecake, snickers, and other candy bars.
For the evening entertainment, in the grand stand there was a 2 night Pro-Rodeo, demolition derby, monster truck show, and a Joan Jett concert. There are also smaller stages with performers (singers, magic, etc).
There are buildings with vegetables, canned goods and baked items on display. They had a large decorated cakes section. Arts and crafts including photography were also well represented.
