Smithers, BC – Located along the banks of the scenic Bulkley River, Riverside Municipal RV Park offers easy access for exploring the town of Smithers and the surrounding area. We stayed here for two nights in mid September and enjoyed walking to town on the Perimeter Trail and hiking at the nearby Twin Falls. The process of choosing and paying for a site in person is not clear, which is why I recommend reserving on line, which is what we did and it worked well. While there is a campground host on site, they don’t seem to be around during the day.
The site we chose (#26) was sufficiently large and wide to accommodate our slides and tow vehicle, but the site had a dip in the middle that forced our hand in positioning within the site in order to still use the levelers. The water pressure was good, but we had some issue with the 30 amp power. When other people in the park were drawing large amps I watched the voltage drop and drop until the point we hit the 109 low voltage cutoff on our surge protector. I really wish I had an autoformer to boost voltage in these cases.
The town of Smithers has done an excellent job setting up green spaces and trails around the town, all of which culminate at this RV park. Just hop on the trail (by foot or by bike) and head to town on wide tree lined paths. It’s about 13 km to traverse the entire Perimeter Trail. Smithers is a fairly large town (by Far North standards where we spent the prior 4 months) and has all the services a traveler may need.
