Haines Junction, YT – A combination gas station/rv park that looks exactly like you’d expect an rv park co-located with a gas station to look. What it lacks in ambiance it makes up for in price, clocking in at a reasonable $25 Canadian for a 30 amp and water site. The sites are long and level and the hookups worked fine. The RV sites are located < 50 yards from the Alaska Highway, so expect some road noise. There is also a small grocery store on site that massively overcharges for all items, but since it’s the only store in a 150 mile radius, they can charge what they want and they have a decent selection. Fas Gas is located across the Alaska Highway from the Da Ku Cultural and Visitor Centre, which includes Yukon visitor information and Kluane National Park’s Reserve and Information Centre.
Note there are no sewer connections available and the dump station was removed a number of years ago, meaning you need to dump before you arrive. We did not know that and arrived with full holding tanks. The clerk mentioned the nearest dump was 30 miles away in Beaver Creek. Either he was uninformed or lying because the only other RV park in town (Kluane RV Kampground, 2 miles away) has a functioning dump station. Their dump is free to use with a minimum 30 liter purchase of fuel (or $5 with no fuel purchase). We would have stayed at Kluane RV Kampground but their water was out of order, so back to Fas Gas we headed after dumping.
This is not a heavily used campground and the majority of campers stay here a single night while driving from Whitehorse to Tok. We’re a bit different and stayed for 3 nights to explore and hike the Southern section of Kluane National Park. We hiked King’s Throne Trail, Dezadeash River Trail and drove our Jeep on the 4×4 Alsek Valley Trail. We found Haines Juction to be perfectly located for such exploration and Fas Gas is the highest rated option in town. We would stay here again if revisiting the area.
