Homer, AK – The picture above pretty much sums up why you stay at this campground on the Homer Spit: for a commanding view of Kachemak Bay.

Heritage RV Park is located on the Homer Spit

Along with phenomenal views you also get all the convenience of staying right on the Spit, namely, fishing right out your door, a walk/bike path just 100 yards away and restaurants located right long the path. If that wasn’t enough, the campground arranged the hookups such that motorhomes pull into the site to get the view, negating the need to thread cables and hoses under the unit as is typical in most parks for back-in sites with a view. Our site was fairly level and provided a 50 amp, full hookup pedestal.

Plenty of room at our site

There is a downside to all this. Well, there are actually two. First, convenience comes at a price, in this case $70/night (the average in Alaska is around $40/night). Second, there is apparently no policy on the number of sleeping units per site, meaning multiple RVs and tents crammed into a space designed for one, not to mention boat trailers and ATV trailers coming and going and parked throughout. So this is not a campground for those seeking quiet. Our neighboring site had at least 8 people camping there and had a campfire going most of the night, less than 10 feet from our RV.

I think our plan to split camping time in Homer between the Spit (convenience but craziness) and the cliffs overlooking the Spit (peaceful but not close to town) is a good one.
