Whitehorse, YT – After making the decision to not proceed on the Top of World Highway, we beat a hasty retreat towards Whitehorse, YT in order to complete the trip to Tok, AK by the next evening. The two main choices for RV parks in Whitehorse being run of the mill, we opted to stay at another Yukon Government campground for $12/night. Our goal was to avoid unhooking, so we considered ourselves very lucky to find an available pull through spot (space #2) that accommodated our rig. The downside of this space was that it sloped to a fairly extreme degree, there was zero chance of leveling even with all our leveler blocks. But for a quick 8 hours of sleep we can get by putting no slides out. I should mention there are plenty of back-in spaces that are long and level here, but we opted to stayed hooked to facilitate a quick exit in the morning.

Egress out of the campground is especially tricky here. Even with a 60 degree wheel cut on our motorhome and the tag axle dumped we could not make the corner. In fact, it wasn’t even close, necessitating a difficult tow car unhook with the tow bar at an extreme angle. Admittedly I didn’t take the best line possible for maximum turning success, so maybe if you did everything perfect you’d make it, but I don’t know. I’d recommend just hooking up after you make the turn.
