There are at least eight restaurants in Dawson City. There are also 2 grocery stores. We saw an ice cream/candy shop. We were only in town a few days and did not get a chance to try more restaurants than described below.
Sourdough Joe’s– We had dinner here. It was an enclosed patio, which appeared to convert to a patio in the summer. We both ordered Halibut. Mike ordered the fish n’ chips and I had a halibut sandwich. The halibut is from Alaska. They also offered sockeye salmon, cod, burgers, shrimp, philly steak sandwiches, pasta, and chicken options. There was a poutine section which included Klondike poutine, listed as fries with double bacon, cheddar and gravy. I’m guessing that is not a heart healthy choice. Both of our dishes came with fries, so we did not order any poutine. We recommend this joint to anyone hungry in Dawson City.
Riverwest Bistro Eatery & Espresso Bar– We had a nice lunch here. This bistro is open for breakfast & lunch. They have wraps, burgers, and mexican fare. They also make the usual latte, espresso and coffee beverages. I ordered a falafel wrap and a berry and yogurt smoothie. Mike ordered a caesar chicken wrap. We both enjoyed our wraps and would return here for a future meal.
Cheechakos Bake Shop– Mike likes to check out bakeries and deemed this one to be the best since leaving home. He got a chewy chocolate nut bar and a chocolate cupcake with strawberry icing. He enjoyed both of them. This bakery/deli had bread, muffins, numerous other baked goods and breakfast sandwiches. This would be a good quick grab-n-go breakfast joint. They did not have any seating.
Dawson City General Store– A grocery store that includes some in-house baked goods and a produce section. This store had a surprisingly decent selection of food. Definitely a solid choice to stock up on groceries.
Bonanza Market– A slightly smaller grocery store than the General Store, though they had a really good selection. They had a deli counter that made sandwiches to order. They also offer a nice selection of baked goods, both sweet & savory. We both got a sandwich for lunch. They were a large sandwich on a roll. Think 4″ thick sandwich. Toppings/dressings per your choices of the usual options. Mike tried a donut and I got a rasberry/white chocolate scone. Both were tasty.
Farmer’s Market– There is a farmer’s market on Saturdays. It is located along front street.
