As I talked about in this post, we went with Bromptons as our folding bike solution. Given the price of the bike I suppose it’s no surprise that official Brompton accessories are quite expensive. After a little bit of research I found alternatives that are at least as good as, and arguably better than, what a Brompton dealer offers. After some use I feel comfortable recommending any of these.

Lighting

Serfas 305 headlight – A bright headlight is a must for those occasions when you arrive home well after dark. This light is 305 lumens and rechargeable via USB, which is a great way to reduce disposing of batteries. It fits perfectly on the Brompton handlebars and does not need to be removed for folding.

Serfas Taillight – At 35 lumens it’s bright enough to be easily seen from the rear. It’s USB rechargeable and lasts a good 8 hours on blink mode.

Computer

Cateye Strada Wireless Computer – Nothing fancy, just the basics for tracking your rides. It fits on the handlebar and, more importantly, works with the tiny Brompton tires (16″ x 1-3/8″).

Bike bags

B&W Folding Bike Bag – Offers basic protection for the bike, such as preventing objects from sticking into the spokes. Note that only a Brompton with the standard seat post will fit in this bag. If you opt for the extended seat post, not only will it not fit, you can’t remove the seat post from the bike without first removing the saddle from the seat post. So opting for the telescoping seat post is a better solution as it easily comes off the bike and stows nicely in the bag with the bike.

Water bottle holder

Two Fish Bottle Holder – Bromptons do not have the standard water bottle holder frame mounting option that most every bike has, so you have to look elsewhere. This is a simple Velcro solution that wraps around the handlebars; and yes, I can confirm it holds a full water bottle tight on the small diameter Brompton bars.
