Pagosa Springs, CO – As we have traveled in our RV throughout the United States and Canada over the past 8 years, we’ve enjoyed visiting a wide variety of RV parks and resorts in a wide range of locations. One region we have consistently enjoyed is southwest Colorado’s San Juan Mountains. This summer, we made the decision to purchase an RV site at Wolf Creek Run Motorcoach Resort in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Wolf Creek Run is a small Class A only resort with only 27 lots. We are now the proud owners of site #17, a riverside site. The resort is open approximately May 15 to October 15, depending upon snow and weather. The other owners we have been very friendly and welcoming.
Pagosa Springs is located at 7,126 feet elevation and has a population just slightly over 2,000 people. It is large enough to have several grocery stores (City Market, Natural Grocers and a Walmart), ACE Hardware, auto parts stores, and a good number of restaurants. For other needs, the city of Durango is located about an hour west. Wolf Creek Run Resort is located about 22 miles west of Wolf Creek Pass on Highway 160 and sits along the San Juan River with access for fishing.
What if we want to travel somewhere else? Whenever we are not at Wolf Creek, we have the option to rent our site. Rental income is split with the resort who handles booking, maintenance, check-ins, and any problems that come up. Ongoing costs of ownership include annual property tax, an annual HOA fee for maintenance of common areas, and monthly electric bills.
Those who have stayed at other Class A only resorts may notice there is no work out area/equipment or swimming pool. These are not amenities that are important to us, so we will not miss them. We will be adding all terrain e-bikes to our gear to take advantage of the extensive riding opportunities in the region.
From Pagosa Springs there are numerous access roads into the San Juan and Rio Grande National Forest for an abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities. There are many 4WD opportunities in SW Colorado from nearby Lake City (112 miles) and Silverton (110 miles). The Weminuche and South San Juan Wilderness Areas offer pristine hiking and backpacking opportunities. We can access sections of the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) and/or Colorado Trail (CT) via Jeep from Wolf Creek Pass, Elwood Pass, Beartown Road, Hunchback Pass, Ute Creek, Spring Creek Pass, Molas Pass, Stony Pass, or Cumbres Pass within a 1-2.5 hours drive. Countless hiking trails in the region also access the CDT or CT. Mesa Verde National Park is 95 miles west of Wolf Creek and Great Sand Dunes National Park lies about 100 miles to the east.
