Kouchibouguac, NB – We would return to this campground in a heartbeat. Nice long and level sites, all utilities worked well, we had a strong Verizon LTE signal, and most importantly, over 60 km of biking/walking trails right out the front door. Kouchibouguac National Park also has a number of hiking trails within a short drive of the campground. We hiked the Pines, Beaver, Cedar, Salt Marsh, Beach Boadwalk, Bog, and Osprey trails. As a bonus, the small village of Saint Louis de Kent is a short drive away and has a reasonable grocery store and a few restaurants. From here we also took a day trip to Mount Carleton Provincial Park to hike to the top of its namesake trail. Mount Carleton is the tallest peak (2,690 feet) in New Brunswick and all of the Canadian Maritimes (NB, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia).
The remnants of Hurricane Dorian made for a memorable stay while we camped here. We briefly debated leaving the area, but the forecasted track had the storm hitting the Eastern side of Nova Scotia and our location would just receive heavy rain and wind. It turned out to be a non-event for campers in this park, although the campground lost power around 11 PM and didn’t regain it until 4 PM the next day. A minor inconvenience considering there were no injuries and no damage to any RVs. Just a few branches down.
