Naples, FL – We started RVing back in 2012 and have stayed at 133 different campgrounds. 100% of those campgrounds allowed all types of RVs. Naples Motorcoach Resort is a class A only resort, allowing only class A motorhomes greater than 30′ in length and less than 10 years old (i.e., expensive). I’m not entirely sure about the theory behind such restrictions, but winnowing down the masses seems like a good guess. We’ve read about how nice such resorts are and figured we’d give it a shot. Like most such resorts, Naples Motorcoach is an ownership facility, meaning people buy sites ($200K seems like a starting price) on which to park their RV when in the area, and rent out when they are away.

The #1 advantage is that a 45′ motorhome easily fits (because the entire facility is designed to accommodate 45′ motorhomes). Absolutely zero problems with narrow roads or low hanging branches or barely fitting in the site. Our lake view site was huge, with a good 10+ feet in front of and behind the RV. The Grand Cherokee easily fit next to the motorhome. All utilities worked well, although wifi speed was capped at a paltry 3 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload. That’s pretty chintzy for $150/night.

There is one negative that stands out about this park that both Karla and I noticed: the people were not that friendly. An enthusiastic greeting of “hello!” was more often than not returned with a short nod of a downcast head followed by a quick turn of the body. This behavior is decidedly not normal in any other RV park we’ve frequented. I believe we were the “have nots” (renters) in a sea of “haves” (owners). I hope I’m wrong, but this is the feeling we both had. Oddly, the park was at less than 50% capacity at a time of the year Florida parks are jammed full. Draw your own conclusions.

From this park we visited Collier- Seminole State Park, went biking with alligators in Shark Valley, visited the Big Cypress National Preserve and took a boat tour from Chokoloskee. We also spent several hours touring Sanibel Island in a rental Polaris Slingshot. If you take a trip to Sanibel, check out the JN DIng Darling National Wildlife Refuge, which is great for birding. While this park was very nice and had exquisite landscaping, we would not return. We enjoy meeting RVers outside the 1%.
