Sisters, OR – If you’re looking for a well run RV park in a beautiful setting near Bend, OR, look no further. Located about 20 miles northwest of Bend in a high desert environment, Sisters Garden has everything a very nice resort should have: well manicured grounds, wide access roads, long sites with good spacing between your neighbors, and beautiful views. We were lucky enough to get an end site right across from the pond. We opened our front shade every morning and enjoyed watching the resident ducks waddle around the grass.
The town of Sisters, Oregon is home to a population slightly under 3,000. The downtown area is very walkable and has many restaurants and stores. Named for its proximity to the Three Sisters Mountains (South, Middle and North) of the Cascade Range, Sisters is a wonderland of lakes, mountains and rivers, a paradise for hikers, flyfishermen, paddlers, mountain bikers, birders, skiers and horseback riders. From the sagebrush of the high desert to the magnificent forests on the flanks of the Cascades, you’ll find a lifetime’s worth of exploration and adventure.
While staying at Sisters Garden RV Resort for seven days, we visited the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, the Newberry National Volcanic Monument, the High Desert Museum, and hiked in the Mt Jefferson Wilderness Area of the Deschutes National Forest. We used Brittany Manwell’s “Day Hiking Bend & Central Oregon: Mt Jefferson/Sisters/Cascades Lakes” for hiking recommendations. The region had several wildfires this summer. The Milli Fire has closed Highway 242 for the near future due to fire damage and hazardous trees. We were unable to hike in parts of Three Sisters Wilderness and Deschutes National Forest due to fire closure. The Forest Service and ODOT are working to reopen the highway and trails. Other nearby destinations we did not have enough time to visit include Smith Rock and Tumalo State Parks and Oregon Badlands Wilderness Area. We recommend the Mackenzie- Santiam Passes Scenic Byway once route 242 reopens. We will definitely return to this area and campground in the future. We could easily spend a month here and not run out of things to do.
This campground also offers “Take It Off Tuesdays”, where you can wash your RV for free. For you non-RVers out there, this is actually pretty rare as most RV parks don’t allow washing an RV. They also have a mini golf course and a fairly long walking path around the entire park. Next door are the county rodeo grounds, which hold an annual rodeo in early June.
