Valdez, AK – Located in downtown Valdez, this well run RV park is within walking distance of everything we needed: the harbor (for chartered halibut fishing), the grocery store, restaurants and the bike path. There are walking trails in town and numerous hiking trails and scenic attractions within a 30 minute or less drive. The views are second to none (well, Tunnel Mountain in Banff comes close), the spaces are large and level and the folks at the front desk will even search for and book a fishing charter for you. The only drawback is that the park is located in a large, dusty gravel lot, with little greenery to break up the monotony and no visual buffer between sites.
Of special note is Eagles Rest allowing us, even encouraging us, to wash our RV right at our site. I believe this may be the first RV park we’ve visited that allows this practice. Most parks ban washing outright and a few allow selected outside companies to wash your rig for you. We took full advantage and cleaned to the best of our abilities (no high pressure wash and no hot water) and now have a fairly clean motorhome that shed multiple layers of road dirt over the preceding 4000 miles.
