One of the highlights of Dawson City is going to the top of Midnight Dome which overlooks the town, the Yukon River, and has views of mountains in every direction.  To the west are the Ogilvie Mountains which were still snow capped.

For those so inclined, there is a steep hike that takes you up to the top or you can drive to the top. There is an awesome bench at the top which allows you to sit back, with your feet up on the comfortable foot rest and take in the view. For a wood bench, this was one of the most comfortable benches we’ve sat on!

Every June 21, at the summer solstice, many people go to the top of the dome to watch the sun barely sink behind the mountains before rising again. I’ve read this can get quite crowded, so go early to get a spot, or go the day before or after when the timing is almost as good.
