On the 4th day of our first RV trip, we were driving across Kansas when it happened.  A rock was kicked up by a passing tractor trailer and hit our windshield with that unmistakable “Thunk”. Yes, first blood had been drawn and so soon.  We stopped at the next Flying J in Limon, Colorado to figure out what to do.  We were concerned that the chip would spread if we continued on our trip.  We also knew that the services west of Denver through our planned destination of Moab, Utah were sparse.  We decided to stay near Denver that night so that we could get the chip dealt with as soon as possible.

We were going to try to stay at a Denver Flying J, but there was no space. We found a place to park temporarily and pulled out our “Good Sam RV Travel Guide and Campground Directory”.  We found Cherry Creek State Park in Aurora, Colorado and were able to find a spot, self-register, unhook the Jeep (2nd time ever), and hook-up the RV to sewer/water/electric  (2nd time ever) in the dark (first time ever).  It took us a long time to unhook & hook-up in the dark, but we got it done.

In the morning, we were delighted by the campground’s trees & birds.  We were even more delighted when we called the nearest Safelite and they said they did work on RV’s and they could look at our chip that day if we could bring it in. We could’ve scheduled someone to come to the campground a couple of  days later, but we wanted to get back on the road. We drove the RV to Safelite.  It was a little tight, but we were able to get into the parking lot.  A repairman came out with a ladder and was able to fix the chip.  When he was done, we could barely tell there had ever been a chip. It never spread or became a problem.
