Eastpoint, FL – The main reason we ventured into the southeast was to find possible winter locations to which we’d like to return. We finally found one. This very nice RV park is located on the so-called Forgotten Coast in the panhandle of Florida, near the small town of Apalachicola. Unlike most of Florida we visited (Jacksonville, Orlando, Fort Myers, Naples, Tampa, Key Largo), this part of the state has one very important thing going for it: it’s not busy! It reminds us of the kind of places we frequent in the West, but with a very large body of salt water nearby.
There are two parts to Coastline RV, a “resort” and a “campground”. We ended up in the resort section because we called late in the season and the campground side was full, but it’s not expensive compared to other Florida RV parks (we paid $360/week). The campground side is $240/week. What are the differences? The resort side has better views of the Apalachicola Bay, slightly larger sites and brick paver patios vs. cement patios. We would be just fine staying on the campground side.
This is a great location for exploring the Forgotten Coast, the Tate’s Hell State Forest, St. George Island, St. Vincent National Wildlife Refuge, and Apalachicola National Forest. The region offers hiking, kayaking/canoeing, bird watching, beaches, and fishing.
Our site (#13) was a back-in, but it’s long and wide and very easy to back-in. There is a nice place for your tow car next to the RV and in front of the brick patio. The site was level and all utilities worked well. Wifi was acceptable.
We would definitely return here, and for longer than a week.
