Like it Green Ribbon Custer, SD – Located in the hauntingly beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota, this RV park is ideally situated on the east side of Custer for exploring all the area has to offer the active traveler. And offer it does. We spent 10 days here and felt rushed. I would plan for a month on the next visit. Within a short drive of the town is Custer State Park, Wind Cave National Park, Jewel Cave National Monument, Black Hills National Forest and the Black Elk Wilderness Area, all waiting to be explored. For those so inclined there are also touristy options nearby, like Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse and Deadwood. We enjoyed the region’s hiking, went backpacking with bison, and spent time wildlife watching.

While this campground is primarily aimed at those traveling with horses, it is very welcoming to RVers of all types. The owners immediately made us feel welcome, as did the camp hosts (Hi Bob and Lee Ann!). They strongly enforce a no-horse policy in the actual campground, so you don’t have to worry about farm smells or dodging 1000 pound mammals. The campground is laid out in a typical grid fashion, while the equines are lodged in stalls and barns around the perimeter.

We somehow ended up in what I believe is the only non-level site, but I can’t argue as it was directly across from the camp hosts and they very generously offered us a seat at their campfire every evening. Our site was very long, the utilities worked well, we had enough room to extend all awnings (this is rare) and our DirecTV satellite locked onto a good signal.

Our site was so unlevel that the steps were thigh high after leveling. We used the picnic table’s seat as our first step

One caution I have for those in class A diesel pushers are multiple signs on the only access road warning of a 6T axle weight limit. I did not notice the signs until we arrived in the campground. I don’t like ignoring such signs, but I was told that “everybody ignores them” and they exist only to keep logging trucks from using the road. This may or may not be true, but if you are over 6T on any axle and cause road damage, you very well could be held liable for repairs.
