Like it Green Ribbon  St Mary, MT – We immensely enjoyed our first 6 night stay here in 2015. We liked it so much that we returned for a 9 night stay in 2017. The park is located on a hill with views down into the Lower Saint Mary Lake. They picked a perfect spot to put a campground. Our site was large and level and hookups worked as expected. We had a very positive experience with the KOA camper cafe for breakfast (dinner less so, but still ok). We used this as our base for Hiking in Glacier National Park.

The location is perfect for explorations into Glacier National Park, being a very short drive from the East entrance and Going To The Sun Road. It’s also centrally located to go north to the Many Glacier area or south to the Two Medicine area.

If you’re driving (in a big rig) from the west via US-2, continue to the town of Browning and then take Duck Lake Road to St. Mary. Our GPS wanted to go via a “shortcut” using county road 49, but I would highly recommend against this in an RV. It’s actually a very scenic and fun drive in a car, so by all means drive it in your tow car.

In 2015, we highly recommend a slice of pie (and the nachos — odd combination, that) at The Park Cafe in the town of St. Mary. My favorite was the Almond Joy pie and Karla loved the Strawberry Cream, but we think you probably can’t go wrong with any pie choice. We were slightly disappointed in 2017 with The Park Cafe, but it is still a solid cafe considering its location. Two Sisters Cafe, in Babb a short drive north before the turn off for Many Glacier, had much better food both times we visited. There’s a small grocery store in St. Mary.
